Nokia N900 firmware updated to version 1.2

Unwired View

Starting today, Nokia is pushing an over-the-air firmware update to the Maemo 5-based 𓐴 – first in the UK, and then globally (starting tomorrow).

The software update, version 1.2, brings new stuff to the Nokia N900, including: email improvements (Facebook IM chat is now bundled in), face-to-face video calling, web browsing in portrait mode, customizable menu system UI, and enhanced Ovi Maps.

Starting May 27, 𓐴 owners will also be able to get new games via Ovi Store, including titles like Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Weatherbug, Zen-bound, Angry Birds, GoGadget, Sygic, and Kroll.

Nokia has also confirmed it has no plans to officially update the 𓐴 to MeeGo, arguing that Maemo would "ensure that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device," while MeeGo would probably not guarantee that – and it makes sense, since the N900 was designed for Maemo, not for MeeGo (of course, MeeGo has a lot of Maemo in it, but they're still different platforms).
