With things like the iPhone and Google’s Android recieiving much of the media’s attention, it’s been hard for Nokia to turn the spot light to their own mobile operating system, Symbian^3. Luckily, they have some new information that is sure to appeal at least to Nokia’s investors regarding the Symbian platform.
According to Nokia exec Lee Williams, the first phone featuring Symbian^3 will not be the Nokia N8, in fact it won’t be a Nokia phone at all. Instead, Williams assures us that the first phone running Symbian^3 will be manufactured by an Asian vendor. However, which Asian vendor that is is anyones guess.
If Nokia is looking for a fighting chance against the iPhone OS and Android, this is definitely a step in the right direction. The future of these mobile operating system pretty much relies on how good the apps are and if Nokia can get Symbian onto enough devices, developers are sure to follow.
