iPhone RFID: object-based media from timo on Vimeo.
My source says that this is the “first step to augmented reality on the iPhone”, but I thought there were already some decent augmented reality apps out there.
This iPhone has an RFID media player on the back of it, and you can watch the video to see what it can do. As you can see, it can look at toy and somehow play a clip based on it. For example, the Chuck Norris doll gives you access to a clip from Walker: Texas Ranger.
Yes, this RFID media player would have to be shrunk in order to make it practical, and I’m not certain that I see a use for this unless it could be controlled. For example, taking a picture of a building in New York City should give me information on that building, not an episode of CSI:NY.
