Samsung Galaxy 3 (i5800) to cost more than $400?

Unwired View

Officially introduced earlier this week by Samsung, the i5800 Galaxy 3 should be available starting July, and it looks like its price will be higher than expected.

According to Mobile-review, the Galaxy 3 (which runs Android 2.1) will retail for 14,000 rubles in Russia. This means about €365 or $450.

Now, if you think about the price of Nokia N8 (€370), you'd expect the Samsung Galaxy 3 to have features comparable to the ones of Nokia's first Symbian^3 smartphone. But it doesn't. Its highlight features include a 3.2 inch WQVGA touchscreen display, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HSDPA, A-GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 3.2MP autofocus camera, and 170MB of internal memory. So I don’t see any reason for someone to choose the Galaxy 3 over the Nokia N8 – unless they really hate Symbian.

A slightly different version of the i5800 – the Samsung Galaxy Apollo 􁰹 – will be available in the UK, via Orange (probably also starting July).
