Powermat Wireless Charging System Review–Interesting Concept

Mobilewhack.com

Chances are, now, you’ve seen one of many commercials telling you new Powermat, and you’re probably wondering, this thing really what it’s cracked up be?  Well, the boys out at Powermat wanted you all to see just what it was like for yourselves, so they sent me one to write up.

They sent the complete system: Powermat 1XA, receiver for the iPhone power supply.  How it works shockingly simple, the back of the box serves as the manual:

1. Place iPhone into Case

2. Place Powermat

3. Your iPhone will charge wirelessly

That’s it–iPhone in case, case charger, charging commences.

And indeed, the charger works as advertised, utterly without wires.  I had long dark night the soul staring at this thing, though…yes, it charges without wires…but who in their right mind would ever pay seventy bucks this thing when any putz with two working brain cells could slap an AC cord into the wall socket do THE EXACT SAME DAMN THING!?  And the worst it is, you STILL have plug in the Powermat!  Yes! The Powermat runs AC power!  This isn’t even WIRELESS in the end!

Thus you have serious problem your hands–why would you EVER pay seventy dollars for device you plug into wall charge your device, when you could simply, for NO EXTRA MONEY, plug your device DIRECTLY INTO THE WALL?

As cool concept as this is–and indeed, it cool concept–cool concepts NOT worth throwing seventy bucks at.

The Good

It’s terribly cool concept

The Bad

Hard justify spending seventy bucks this

Works only iPods iPhones

Isn’t even completely wireless–you have to plug it in.

Score 3 / 10
